The Aceh Tsunami Museum located in Banda Aceh. Designed as a symbolic monument to the earthquake and tsunami in 2004 that happened in Banda Aceh. Not just for monument, this museum also become an educational center and emergency center and emergency shelter if a tsunami occurs. Tsunami museum designed by a architect from Indonesia. This museum was established in 2009 ago that has 4 floors with an area of 2.500 m2 curved wall recovered with geometric reliefs. It’s true! From distance, the building looks so beautiful and modern.
If you look closely, this building looks magnificent at all.

At the entrance, you will greeted with a narrow and dark alley between two walls of water as high as 40 meters to recreate the ambiance and panic situation when the tsunami occurred. If you have any claustrophobia and traumatic, get the left stairs to the next room. I was challenged to enter the tunnel. And I felt really sad.

Caution in Aceh Tsunami Museum

Tsunami Museum also has a room acknowledges the victims and the surviving members, whose the name are to be inscribed on the wall. The victim’s name carved on wood carving. The room shaped like a chimney that has God’s sign at the apex. This represented the struggle of the victims to free themselves from sea whirlpool. This room called The Light of God or Fighting Room.
