How well do you know about noodle in Indonesia? One of my favorite noodle is come from Banda Aceh. Aceh culinary always represented with strong seasonings and spices. Perhaps this has to do with the history of Aceh. As we know, Aceh was a largest Muslim Kingdom in Indonesia on 13th to 15th century CE. The kingdom was called Samudera Pasai and also called Samudera Darussalam. And Aceh became the spice trade gateway that connects with India, Europe and China. And the curry-based soup obviously was the influence of neighboring Indian Cuisine, while the noodle was from Chinese influence. (it all make sense, now)

I am actually a bit confuse and doubt on which Mie Aceh should I try. Yet, the local said: “MIE RAZALI! There are so many restaurants that sell Mie Aceh. But this one is the best!”
Mie Razali was established in 1967 by Razali, and now his son continue his secret recipe.
What’s inside this noodle and make it looks so tempting?

Mie Razali with Shrimp

THE REVIEW
NOODLE – This thick yellow noodle are served with slice of goat meat, beef, shrimp or crab. They are served in rich, creamy and hot spicy curry-like. The seasonings are consist of red chili pepper, black pepper, garlic, caraway, cardamom, and star anise googletest. The noodle are served on banana leaf with bean sprouts, cabbage and celery. Do you know that most of mie Aceh restaurant’s noodles are home-made?
VARIATIONS – Mie Aceh is available in two variations: Mie Aceh Goreng or Kering (fried and dry) and Mie Aceh Kuah or Basah (soup). And also served with emping, slice of shallots, cucumber and dash of lime.
PLACE – The restaurant is quite comfy with yellow-painted and tourist friendly location.

TIPS
Don’t hesitate to put lime on top right before you consume mie Aceh. It taste like heaven! Yum! And also be patient queuing on peak season.
